Our services

Creating a microforest : the main steps

Creating a microforest starts with a meeting and a visit to the site. Then the species are chosen, the soil is prepared and the planting takes place. We establish the ideal ecological conditions to guarantee the best results in terms of growth, using natural materials that we find locally. Our services cover the entire process, from site selection to planting and monitoring.

Project study

Initial contact, understand what the customer wants, identify a plot of land, feasibility study.

Site visit

Meet the customer, confirm feasibility, check access, take measurements on site and provide a quote accordingly.

Choice of species

Summary of the analysis leading to a list of representative species ranked according to their degree of dominance.

Preparing the soil

Decompaction and enrichment of the soil, while respecting the texture and chemical characteristics of the existing soil.

Planting day

Participatory event involving volunteers, including covering of the soil (or our own team does the planting).

Maintenance and follow-up

Keep weeds under control and ensure the ecosystem develops properly. After two or three years, the forest is self-sufficient.

The project and its different stages can be adapted in all respects to suit your preferences: the shape and surface area of the forest; adding a path or fences; including a few fruit trees at the edge of the forest; increased abundance of wild flowers or attractiveness of the environment for birds.

Maintenance is required for two to three years. This consists of controlling weeds around the trees and sporadic watering as necessary. The Miyawaki forest becomes fully self-sufficient from its third year. Up to that point we follow its progress, both remotely and with site visits, and we share practical advice on its upkeep. At your request, Urban Forests can also do the maintenance work needed for the microforest

Turn your tree planting into a collective event !

Planting is the ideal time to create a participatory moment, with everyone coming together. This should establish a sense of connection and build enthusiasm for the project. Planting usually takes half a day and you can combine it with a festive event. This lets the participants become agents of change, who can directly monitor the development of the forest at their workplace or near their home. So, get your community involved !

Our other services

Besides planting microforests, we also create biodiversity gardens. This begins with a detailed analysis of the landscape to produce a concept for the space and its surroundings, which includes features that benefit nature but need relatively little in the way of upkeep. As such, the garden looks good while also evolving freely as far as possible. Discover our various landscaping options!
